I. THOSE PESKY FLIES!

While scientists have identified over 80,000 species of flies, some believe there could be over one million different species of flies on the planet. Most common and annoying are the flies of the Brachycera suborder, or the "tabanids." This group includes horseflies, robber flies, tsetse flies, fruit flies, and the familiar "house fly."

Flies feed on decaying matter and are known to carry diseases such as typhoid, anthrax, dysentary, yaws and cholera.

II. HOW DOES THE TRAP WORK?

Simple. House flies are lured to the trap by the scent of decaying meat (bait), and enter the trap through specially-designed "gates" to feed. Once inside the trap, the fly, by its own nature, will try to escape by flying through the clear sides of the jar. Soon, they will drop to the bottom of the jar and drown.

III. BAITING THE TRAP

House Flies -- Mix one cup of water with two heaping teaspoons of hamburger, soft meat or canned dog food. Unscrew the lid of the trap and pour the premixed solution into the trap.

Fruit Flies -- Mix 1/4 cup of fruit juice with two heaping teaspoons of fresh fruit bits, or place 1/2 cup of white vinegar into the bottom of the trap. Keep pipe gates dry.

That's all there is to it!

IV. PLACEMENT OF TRAPS

Outdoors. For outdoor eating areas, put the trap out early. For long-term control, place the trap where it will get generous amounts of morning and afternoon sun. Hang the trap by the string provided or place it on a table or other flat surface.

Indoors. For indoor fruit fly trapping, place the trap in the kitchen or anywhere near where fruits and vegetables are stored. For indoor housefly trapping, place the trap in the kitchen or garage. (NOTE: Placement of traps outdoors around the house can actually reduce the number of flies coming into the house.)

V. CLEANING THE TRAP - BE CAREFUL

Remember -- flies can carry disease. Clean the trap outdoors with a garden hose or under a faucet. Once clean, repeat the baiting procedure and replace. Do Not Place In The Dishwasher
